TOP 3 Indispensable Accessories for Camping from BPS KNIVES

Let’s talk about things that will make your hiking experience easier! After all, we’re a company that specializes in exactly that.

Why the right equipment is important on a hike

On any hike, even a fairly easy one like hiking, there’s a harsh rule: every item you carry either helps you or wastes precious space. And this is not just about comfort — it’s about your safety.

During your adventures/misadventures, the weather can change abruptly, the route may turn out to be too difficult, or you might break your arm on the ugly mug of a boar that bursts out of the forest and dares to challenge you! In moments like these, the quality and thoughtfulness of your outdoor adventure gear become critical. In extreme conditions, good hiking accessories

help you retain warmth and conserve energy,

allow you to start a fire and cook food,

increase your chances of waiting out bad weather safely,

outdoor survival gear reduce the risk of mistakes caused by fatigue or stress.

Ferro Rod - fire is always at hand

It’s hard to overestimate the value of fire. It’s a source of life — especially on a hike, and especially in cold conditions. Fire means warmth, light, the ability to cook food, and psychological comfort. Sometimes, whether you manage to start a fire or not can literally be a matter of survival.

That’s why we decided it was essential to have a way to start a fire quickly, in any situation — even the most extreme ones. This led us to create the perfect tool for the job: the Ferro Rod fire starter (link). Strictly speaking, we didn’t invent it — our distant ancestors from the Paleolithic era did. We simply brought it into a modern form. And it certainly didn’t become any worse because of that.

What is Ferro Rod and why is it important on a hike

A Ferro Rod is a rod made from a special alloy that produces powerful sparks when scraped. Unlike lighters or matches, it:

works even when wet,

performs reliably in cold temperatures,

has no limited number of uses.

For long hikes and off-grid adventures, it is one of the most effective fire starting tools.

Advantages of a flint

Key advantages of a Ferro Rod include:

high reliability in all weather conditions,

compact size and lightweight design,

long service life,

simple construction — nothing to break.

When paired with BPS Knives blades and accessories, a Ferro Rod becomes an especially efficient and user-friendly survival tool.

How to light a fire correctly

To start a fire using a Ferro Rod:

prepare dry tinder and small kindling in advance,

position the rod securely on the ground or near the tinder,

use a knife or striker to produce strong, controlled sparks,

gradually add larger fuel while maintaining the flame.

Always follow fire safety rules and consider local conditions — responsible fire use is just as important as knowing how to start one.

STONES2PCS - sharpness is always with you

Even if your name is Arthur and you happen to be the proud owner of Excalibur, we have some unfortunate news for you — even a legendary blade needs regular sharpening. Quite often, the situation goes like this: you’ve set up camp, lit a cozy fire, pitched your tent, and it’s finally time to cook. You take out your knife, only to discover it’s so dull it can barely cut air — and that’s only if the air doesn’t mind.

To make sure this never happens, we created an absolutely awesome portable knife sharpening kit — STONES2PCS (link). The set includes two pocket sharpening stones with 240 and 800 grit, polishing compound, and a leather strop. Everything is stored in a stylish and durable nylon case. With this kit, you can sharpen any blade or tool to razor sharpness — from knives to scissors. A definite must-have for any hike.

Here’s how to use it:

1. Preparation Before Sharpening

Choose a stable, flat surface. If possible, lightly wet the sharpening stones with water. This is optional but helps improve sharpening performance and reduces wear. Clean the knife blade from dirt and moisture before starting. Always keep the knife under control and make sure the blade is directed away from your body.

2. Coarse Sharpening – 240 Grit Stone

The 240 grit stone is used for restoring a dull blade, repairing minor edge damage, and forming a new cutting edge. Place the knife on the stone at an angle of approximately 15–20 degrees. Using smooth, controlled movements, guide the blade across the stone from heel to tip. Sharpen both sides alternately, keeping the same number of strokes on each side. Continue until a consistent burr appears along the entire edge.

3. Fine Sharpening – 800 Grit Stone

The 800 grit stone is used to refine the edge after coarse sharpening, remove deep scratches, and improve sharpness. Maintain the same sharpening angle. Use lighter pressure and more controlled strokes. Continue sharpening until the burr becomes very small or disappears completely. At this stage, the blade should already be able to cut paper or thin material cleanly.

4. Polishing – Leather Strop with Compound

The leather strop is used to remove the remaining burr, polish the edge, and achieve maximum sharpness. Apply a small amount of micron polishing compound to the leather. Place the knife on the strop with the spine leading, never the cutting edge. Pull the blade across the strop from heel to tip. Perform 10–20 strokes per side.

5. Checking the Result

After sharpening, the knife should easily cut paper, carve wood smoothly, and have a clean, even cutting edge without visible burrs.

6. Storage and Maintenance

Clean the stones from metal residue after use and allow them to dry before packing. Store all components in the nylon pouch. Keep the leather strop dry and clean.

Bushcraft Bag Big - order in  your hiking equipment

If your hiking route goes through a forest or even near one, chances are you’ll want to collect some mushrooms or berries. The main thing here is not to mix up the edible ones with the poisonous ones — otherwise, things can end very badly for you.

But it’s just as important where you put what you’ve gathered. You’ll definitely need a comfortable, spacious, and durable belt bag. And what a coincidence — we’ve made exactly that: (link). What can we say? This bag is made from cotton canvas and genuine leather. It’s big, roomy, and tough — exactly what you need for hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing.

Bonus: Which knife to take on a hike

But what kind of hiking is it without a knife? Not a very good one, I’ll tell you that. So let’s take a look at which knife you should bring with you:

Adventurer CSHF - a universal fixed blade knife for everyday tasks on a hike (link)

We didn’t call it ‘The Adventurer’ for nothing! Its blade, made from 1066 carbon steel with a hardness of 56–57 HRC, features a Scandi grind. The handle is crafted from walnut wood and coated with a protective layer of Danish oil. What does all this mean? It means this knife can handle virtually any task on a hike, camping trip, hunt, fishing trip, or survival adventure — all within reason, of course. You can use it to cut food, ropes, process game, carve sticks for a fire, build a shelter, and even chop small logs. The set also includes our amazing signature leather sheath. This knife is the very embodiment of adventure!

HK1 CSHF - reliable for working with wood and cooking (link)

And this is our hunting knife — designed for precise work with meat, fish, and wood. Just like the Adventurer CSHF, it’s made from 1066 carbon steel (57–59 HRC, Scandi grind), and the handle is crafted from walnut wood coated with Danish oil. The main difference from the knife above is the Drop Point blade shape, which increases cutting power and precision, while also strengthening the tip — perfect for working with wood or on a field kitchen.

But that’s not all — there’s a nice bonus. Along with our signature leather sheath, this knife set includes a ferrocerium rod attached to it. This way, everything you need to start a fire, even in the harshest conditions, is always right on your belt or in your backpack!

And here’s another durable camping knife. It’s also made from 1066 carbon steel, with a walnut handle, Drop Point blade, Scandi grind, and comes with our signature leather sheath with a ferrocerium rod attached.

What makes it different from the previous two knives, you ask? Its hardness — 59–60 HRC. This makes it the perfect tool for the toughest tasks, like building a camp, constructing a shelter, setting traps, batonning firewood, and other similar work. An excellent tool for survival in the harshest conditions
